The Bakenes court is the oldest existing court in Haarlem, and perhaps in the Netherlands. It was founded by Dirck van Bakenes in 1395. It was built by Dirck's widow and their two sons. It could house 20 (later 12) single women who were over 60. This way, they had a safe place to live. The houses that stand there now date from 1663.
