This seascape is painted with a poem in mind. This is the English translation from Dutch: 

I once dreamed and behold, I walked on the beach at low tide. I was not alone, for the Lord walked bij mij side. We walked through life together and left our marks two by two in the sand. The Lord walked by my side.

I stopped and looked back, saw the entire course of my life; times of hapiness and joy, of deep sorrow and hope. But when I looked closely to the trail, I saw only a single set of footprints along the entire stretch right where the path was tough and hard. 

Then I said: "Lord Why then? Right where I needed You most? Just when I saw no way out, on the toughest parts of the road? 

The Lord then looked at me with love and answered my questions: My dear child, when things were hard, I carried you trough.
